LEGACY

A Gift That
Outlasts a Lifetime.

Your Values, Expressed in Your Estate

A planned gift to Residing Hope is one of the most powerful ways a person can express their deepest values — and ensure that the children and families of Florida continue to receive the care they need long after they are gone. Planned gifts, also called legacy gifts or deferred gifts, allow donors to make a contribution that is often significantly larger than what they could give during their lifetime, frequently with substantial tax advantages that benefit both the donor and their heirs. For many donors, a planned gift to Residing Hope represents the culmination of a lifetime of caring about vulnerable children — a final, lasting expression of the conviction that every child deserves a chance to heal and flourish.

The simplest planned gift — and the most common — is a bequest in your will or living trust. A bequest can designate a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the residual of your estate after other bequests have been fulfilled. It requires no transfer of assets during your lifetime, does not affect your current financial security, and can be modified at any time. More complex gift vehicles — charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities, life insurance gifts, and IRA beneficiary designations — can provide income during your lifetime, reduce capital gains taxes on appreciated assets, and create estate tax savings for your heirs. Each of these vehicles has different financial implications, and the right choice depends on your specific circumstances.

Residing Hope's Chief Development Officer works personally with donors and their financial and legal advisors to structure gifts that align with your financial goals, family circumstances, and philanthropic intentions. There is no minimum gift size. Every conversation is completely confidential. The organization's legal name for bequest purposes is Residing Hope, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization incorporated in the State of Florida. The federal tax identification number (EIN) is available upon request.

Donors who include Residing Hope in their estate plans are recognized as members of the Heritage Society — a community of visionary supporters whose generosity will shape the organization's mission for generations to come. Heritage Society members receive a personal acknowledgment from the Chief Development Officer, recognition in the organization's annual report, and an invitation to an annual gathering at the Enterprise campus.

Bequest in Your Will or Living Trust

The simplest and most common planned gift. Designate a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the residual of your estate to Residing Hope. Can be modified at any time and does not affect your current financial security. Residing Hope's legal name is Residing Hope, Inc., a Florida 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT)

Transfer appreciated assets to a charitable remainder trust. Receive income for life or a term of years at a fixed or variable rate. Receive an immediate charitable deduction. Avoid capital gains tax on the sale of appreciated assets. The remainder passes to Residing Hope at the end of the trust term.

Life Insurance Gift

Name Residing Hope as a full or partial beneficiary of an existing or new life insurance policy. A simple beneficiary designation form is all that is required — no attorney or legal documents needed. The gift passes outside of probate and is not subject to estate tax.

IRA / Retirement Account Beneficiary

Name Residing Hope as a full or partial beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other qualified retirement account. Retirement assets passed to a nonprofit avoid both income tax (which heirs would otherwise pay) and estate tax — making them among the most tax-efficient assets to leave to charity.

Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA)

Transfer cash or appreciated securities to Residing Hope in exchange for fixed income payments for life at a rate determined by your age at the time of the gift. Receive an immediate partial charitable deduction. Avoid capital gains tax on appreciated assets. A simple, direct agreement between you and Residing Hope.

Real Estate or Property

Donate appreciated real estate outright, through a retained life estate (continuing to live in your home during your lifetime), or through a charitable remainder trust. Receive a charitable deduction based on the appraised value and avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation.

Join the Heritage Society

Donors who include Residing Hope in their estate plans are recognized as Heritage Society members — a community of visionary supporters whose generosity will sustain Residing Hope's mission for generations of Florida children yet to come. Heritage Society members receive a personal acknowledgment from the Chief Development Officer, recognition in the annual report, and an invitation to an annual gathering on the historic Enterprise campus. Membership requires only that you notify Residing Hope of your intention — no minimum gift size, no public disclosure required.
